Motor Trader is the Motoring Classifieds Partner for ASIA KLASIKA 2013

6th October 2013

ASIA KLASIKA: A Historic Automobile Festival, organised by Historic Motoring Ventures, covers the length and breadth of such automobile excellence.

For over 100 years, the automobile industry has served as an outlet for designers and engineers to bring their creativity and aspirations to life, making automobiles more than just a set of wheels. Some may not have been regarded as ‘special’ when they were produced but decades later, they became ‘classics’, lovingly restored by owners and elevated to the status ‘collectors item’.

This year, in particular, has special anniversaries of great cars and marques like Aston Martin (100 years old), Chevrolet Corvette (60 years old), Porsche 911 (50 years old) and Lamborghini (50 years old), as well as the anniversaries of the Mercedes-Benz 600, SL Pagoda and Ponton models.

Owners across South East Asia brought their pride and joy to the event over the weekend which was held in conjunction with the fourth instalment of the Malaysian International Vintage and Classic Concours, where over a hundred of the best vintage and classic cars were judged in the Vintage (pre-1960), Classic (1961-1975) and Modern Classic (1976-1989) categories.

Apart from witnessing a congregation of the best cars South East Asia has to offer, the public feasted their eyes on a special selection of royal cars from His Royal Highness, the Sultan of Johor’s private collection, including the super rare Aston Martin Vantage and Volante, Lamborghini Espada, Jalpa and LM002 and a 1973 Chevrolet Corvette Indianapolis 500 pace car.

According to Andrew Suresh, the curator of the event, there is a lack of motoring events in South East Asia and that is where ASIA KLASIKA steps in, bringing about a platform where car manufacturers, collectors and enthusiast can form a camaraderie over a shared passion. In fact, Mr. Suresh said he has received positive feedback from show organizers in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Australia, inviting the winners of the ‘Sultan Ibrahim Cup’ to their respective locations to compete as well.

Looking forward, he is aiming for a bigger and better festival in conjunction with the upcoming Visit Malaysia 2014 campaign, and with the positive feedback and support received, he is confident that setting an automobile festival of international standards in Malaysia is certainly not out of reach.
